POINT SYSTEM TERMINOLOGY

BOGIE
Female wife, partner, girlfriend.

COUNTER-POINT
When the bogie realises there is an attempt to earn points and therefore does a 'counter-point manoeuvre' where the point scoring act is considered of little or no importance.

POINT-STABILISING MOVE
When you are constantly running in the negative, or have been earning and burning too many points too quickly, the bogie may throw a full-on demand at you, naturally expecting to meet resistance.

In this instance you then employ a 'point-stabilising move' where you accept the demand straight away with no fuss or resistance, much to the bogie's surprise. This tactic is used to restore balance and regain points.
SPONTANEOUS POSITIVE POINT SCORING
Requires a higher skill level of operation, when normal day to day actions and decisions always result in positive point scoring. More points for less effort.

“Every guy in a relationship follows the Point System … even though most don’t realise they do.”

T

he Point System is the name given to a scheme that, generally speaking, is used by guys to help positively influence their Approval Rating. The Approval Rating is the program Bogies use to assess their man's level of 'okayness'. While in a relationship this assessment does not stop – ever – calling for the constant employment of counter offensive and defensive tactics.

The Point System is a strategy-based survival system that enables a man to influence his Approval Rating in a positive manner. 'The Point System formalises everyday deeds into points,' says Dr. Rugari. 'The more Points you accumulate, the higher your Approval Rating, allowing you to head off into the night and return home at time YOU find acceptable. Undertaking this activity with a Negative Point Value would mean you're lucky to make it as far as the front door.'

By employing the Point System safely and effectively you can go and do 'guy stuff' with little or no resistance from your significant other, and with less chance of any serious repercussions.

The chart below indicates Points earned or burned for the associated activity.

"The first rule of the Point System
is that there is no Point System."

Dr. Rugari stresses that if the system is to work effectively a Bogie must not know the system is at work. If a Bogie suspects or finds out they're playing, the Point Value Measurement System changes. 'If this becomes the case there are separate guidelines that must be followed,' warns Dr. Rugari. 'If you find yourself in this situation email me ( ). I will diagnose your situation and help you get back on track.'

There are a number of different strategies that can be employed when running the Point System. Some men can run a deficit balance where they are always scoring in the negative and need to redeem Points in order to be able to do stuff. Others can run in surplus, accumulating Points and then burning them in bulk at a later stage. Some men – not many – can even manage to keep a zero Point balance by running a constant burning and earning cycle. This requires a higher level of understanding of the Point System and is not recommended for those new to relationships, or those about to enter a new relationship.

Integrating the Point System into your life means looking at many daily decisions as opportunities either to add, subtract or remain neutral from a Point Scoring point of view. Any activity that involves a Bogie is rarely neutral, but seen through the Point System, they are always opportunities for Spontaneous Positive Point Scoring.

Point values start to diminish almost as soon as they are acquired, which means you need to keep scoring consistently. Points earned a month ago would be worth zero today. Dr. Rugari offers this advice: 'The key is to not let your Points Balance fall below zero. Think of your Points Tally as like having petrol in your car. If you run the level down to the red, you're buggered – but keep the level above flat lining and you can cruise all day and night.'

“Honey, have you seen Mel Adams' pole work?”

A Point Scoring Opportunity that presents itself a couple of times a day is cooking. If your Points Tally needs some beefing up, casually mention to your Bogie that you're going to Ramsay it up in the kitchen (keep the swearing to a minimum, though). While the result may not be restaurant standard, your Bogie will just be happy she's got her feet up.

'Beat Heat Eat provides you with really easy ways to work towards earning enough Points to get you that five year subscription to Alpha Magazine,' notes Dr. Rugari. 'The book will help out thousands of guys, and that can only be a good thing.'

You can earn Bonus Points by cleaning up, too. Stacking the dishwasher or, even better, doing the dishes old-school style in the sink, will help top up your Points Account.

And for a Lightning Points Strike surprise your Bogie with Chocolate Mug Cake – a free BeatHeatEaterised recipe. Serve it up with some ice-cream on the side and see how good life is with even just a couple of Points in the tank.
