GWCA 2010

The Gourmand World Cookbook Award winners were announced in Paris on February 11, 2010. Beat Heat Eat had entered the ring to take on all contenders and pretenders in the 'Best Illustrations' category. After going mano a mano with 20 titles from around the World, Beat Heat Eat was finally forced from the ring in third place. This interview was conducted shortly after the facemask was pulled off.

Congratulations! Third in the World - how does it feel? Mate, we was robbed. But really, being my first GWCA competition an' all, I'm pretty happy with the effort.

What was your mindset going in? I knew it was going to be tough. I mean just look at the quality of the other titles. They're all champions in their own right.

Tell us about your preparation. I felt a bit underdone to be honest. For a one colour job to get this far in the comp is pretty good when you think about it. A second colour would've made things easier on the eye, but fighting on ugly as we did seems to have set us apart from the competition.

What are your chances of going all the way next year? I don’t make predictions, but I can tell you this. We’ll be taking it one week at a time.

And celebrating tonight, no doubt? For sure. I'll be getting stuck into the carbs and having a big session with the PlayStation before the NAB Cup starts.

Any words for the fans back home? Yeah. I love yous all! And buy more Wakefield Press books. They're good.
